Sunnydale AU: at the corner of your eye

The problem with Grahame being in LA and Mother spending most of her time in Sacramento is that, for all intents and purposes, the Chandler household has been whittled down from three (from four) to one. That makes less work to go around, and it's getting harder and harder to justify keeping on all the staff. Cal is combing intently through records and other paperwork, trying to find a balance between what's best for the Chandler finances and what will cause the least amount of difficulty for those who depend on the Chandlers for their wages.

Cal remembers that.

"Precisely, yes."

And he hasn't! Because he is quite fond of Peter Beardsley. And the man is admirably good at his job.

"Well, I'm glad you haven't," Cal says. "I don't feel like looking for a new one."

"And you'd be hard put to find a better."

"Please," calls a voice as its owner walks past the door, "I'm blushing."

"You bloody well are not," he says without missing a beat.

A chuckle drifts back down the hall toward them.

Sherlock laughs.

Cal rolls his eyes.

"Finally having an excuse to put that camera in my room put him in a great mood," he tells Sherlock.

"Oh dear."

"Normally, he'd be pissed about that thing until we caught it," Cal says. "I guess this is better."

In a way.

"It's sweet, really," he opines.

Okay, now he's just being an asshole.

Which is why Cal rolls his eyes again. And smacks Sherlock's leg, since it's the nearest part of Sherlock available for such a thing.

Sherlock takes a sip of his tea just so he can give Cal a reproving look over the rim of the cup.

Cal fails to look in any way impressed.
