Sunnydale AU: let's try that again

The Milliways vacation was, Cal thinks, exactly what they all needed. He definitely came home to discover that things seemed a lot more manageable than they had before he left for New York, and not just because Obadiah Stane will officially never be his damn problem again.

(Peter, he knows, suspects that something happened while Cal was away, but Cal calmly ignores his less-than-subtle hints for an explanation. What would he even tell Peter?

Although he does kind of love imagining the look on Peter's face if he found out exactly how far Cal was out of his reach, and for how long.)

There's more time for life beyond the household now, and so it is that Cal is resuming something resembling regular visits to the Stark residence once more.

Cal's narration and Sherlock's narration should quit arguing before somebody notices. It would probably be Sherlock, and no one wants that.

"We're having dessert, right?"

Most of Cal's pizza is gone.

"Yes, we are having dessert."

It was, in its way, kind of a silly question. Cal nods.

"The macadamia cookie sundae thing is really good."

By which he means composed entirely of sugar.

"Okay, that does sound awesome. What do you think, Sherry?"

"I? I have no opinion on the matter of dessert."

Because he's planning to steal Tony's. As usual.

"You should probably just order two," Cal tells Tony.

He has, after all, witnessed a dessert theft or two by now.

"Yep. And then he takes whichever one he thinks I won't like as much. We've got a system."

"You could get two of the same one."

Then what would Sherlock do?

"He'd probably take 'em both out of spite," Tony says, thus ensuring that Sherlock will do no such thing.

This sounds familiar. Cal grins.

"Not now that you've said that, he won't."

"...We're stopping this right here or it'll never end."

"Oh, no. Do go on, by all means."

Cal is laughing as he remembers how this went last time.

(It's reassuringly easy to edit Stane out of the memory.)

"Maybe you could flip a coin," he suggests to Sherlock.

"Or steal yours instead."

—Tony double-takes, then snickers.

"Sure, if you want my soda over your head."

Cal does not share Tony's easygoing nature on the subject of desserts.

"Yeah, that's what I thought."

Cal takes a serene sip of soda.

"See, Sherry, some people have this thing called 'personal space'."

"Not while I'm around, they don't."

Unless they threaten him with soda, apparently.

Cal will remember that.

Or - possibly he won't.
