Sunnydale AU: definitions

First thing about college that sucks: Classes started two days before Sunnydale High.

Cal is also not excited about his classes themselves.

He does have to admit, though, that not having to be awake practically before sunrise has been pretty awesome. And today he got out at roughly the time Sunnydale High does, which he'll have to mention to Sherlock - there are three days in his week when Cal will be able to give him a ride home.

. . . although, judging from the ancient red truck with the hot girl driving it that Cal passed on his way up the driveway, that may not be an issue.

He's still smirking as he heads for the door.

"She drove you home," Cal points out.

(He doesn't say While you were wearing that. He's not thinking about that.)

What with how much Sherlock hates long walks and all.

"So, she was interested," Cal declares, with gleeful emphasis.

Cal rolls his eyes.

"Girls think we're hot," he says. "Fact of life. Jess wasn't full of shit when she was talking about hot twins being my competition."

"And supposing she is not compatibly oriented?"

"Now you're just making shit up," Cal says.

Dryly: "I assure you, Cal, I did not invent lesbians."

"No, you just dress like them," Cal says. "Maybe that wouldn't be a problem after all."

Maybe she liked the skirt.

"I was not aware that putting on a skirt transformed me into a woman. But, regardless, perhaps she simply—isn't—interested. I refuse to speculate prematurely."

"Why?"

Cal slips his hands into his back pockets. (He still hasn't sat down.)

"She's not a case, she's a girl. Speculating's half the fun."

"Is it? I wouldn't know."

"Because you suck," Cal says. "Doesn't Tony ever talk about this stuff with you?"

Seriously. It sounds to Cal like someone fell down on the job here.

Cal laughs a little himself.

"Well, he should."

"Good heavens. No, I don't think the sort of advice on girls that Tony Stark would give is quite the kind I need."

Lots and lots of casual sex really isn't Sherlock's thing. At all.

". . . okay, probably not," Cal concedes.

"But still. Other than the advice thing." It doesn't all have to be advice.

"Other than that, I confess I have little interest in listening to him recite his achievements."

Cal snorts.

Fair enough, he supposes.

"Maybe I'm the one who hasn't been doing my job, then."

"Obviously someone has to," Cal says, "and no offense to Jarvis, but I'm not gonna leave it up to him, either."
