Sunnydale AU: at the corner of your eye

The problem with Grahame being in LA and Mother spending most of her time in Sacramento is that, for all intents and purposes, the Chandler household has been whittled down from three (from four) to one. That makes less work to go around, and it's getting harder and harder to justify keeping on all the staff. Cal is combing intently through records and other paperwork, trying to find a balance between what's best for the Chandler finances and what will cause the least amount of difficulty for those who depend on the Chandlers for their wages.

Cal leads the way not to his room, but to the living room where he and Tina curl up together and watch TV when they can.

"Peter's installing the new camera in my room," he explains, a little unhappily.

"I don't know how you stand it. A camera with a human on the other side is an unsettling thought."

And let's not even talk about the bedroom part.

Cal shrugs. "It's just for a while. Until we figure out whatever the hell that was and how dangerous it is."

Cal understands the reasoning. He hates it, but he understands it.

But he is totally covering the camera when he's in there with Tina. Peter can suck it up if he doesn't like it.

"Oh, believe me, I appreciate the logic."

Cal makes himself comfortable on the couch, continuing,

"Also, I hate to break it to you, but."

He nods wryly toward a camera in the corner of the room.

"That's not run by a robot."

"It is also not in my bedroom," Sherlock counters, perching on an armrest.

Cal snorts a little.

"True."

He looks triumphant.

. . . Cal laughs.

"Hush, you."

"Sorry, am I ruining your amazing victory?"

He's not actually that sorry.

"Yes," he says, trying to look serious (but not trying very hard). "For shame."

"I know you worked hard for it," Cal says. "For like five seconds."

"Those are five seconds I am never getting back."

"Yeah, 'cause I'm not giving 'em back," Cal says, "so don't even try."

Sherlock completely fails to keep himself from cracking up.

Cal laughs into his soda can.

Sherlock gives him a reproving look.

It's not actually very reproving.

Cal responds with an unrepentant grin.

It's extremely unrepentant.

He endeavours—not, of course, successfully—to hide his fond smile.

Cal makes a face at him and takes a long drink of soda.

Sherlock grins behind his tea.

Cal lowers the soda with a long sigh.



And then there's some burping, because he did just drink like half the can.
