Sunnydale AU: An Illicit Visit (no, not that kind)

There is some definite disapproval going on in the Chandler compound over Cal's refusing to go along with the implicit decision that the Starks (especially Sherlock) are not the best company for him. It's not the first time he's pushed such a ruling - far from it - but this is something of a special case. Whether it's the shooting or the fact that Sherlock and his identity issues are generally glossed over in proper society with "He just couldn't handle his parents' death, the poor thing, at least his brother is made of sterner stuff" that causes greater concern . . .

Well. Cal has the feeling his knows the answer to that.

His own accidental death could at least be used to the Chandlers' advantage, after all.

The obvious response to all of this is, of course, to invite Sherlock over to visit.

"We'll have to sneak if we don't want to spend twenty minutes listening to Mother, though."

He watches hungrily, drinking in every detail, particularly of Holmes's voice and movements. Much of it is familiar. Even, perhaps especially, the analytical violence.

(At Always nice to see you, Watson he grins. Oh, indeed.)

The movie proves itself engrossing by Cal's standards, definitely not the kind of dry and cerebral thing he had assumed it would be. It keeps his attention, though he also glances at Sherlock from time to time to watch him watch it.

(When the Sherlock on the screen tells Watson, "It makes a considerable difference to me, having someone with me on whom I can thoroughly rely," Cal's expression flickers as the familiarity of the comment registers, but he brushes it away.)

And Sherlock laughs again.

"They do enjoy including their little references to the books," he murmurs.

[identity profile] americas-son.livejournal.com 2010-08-14 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, it is based on the books, right?

Cal shrugs, though, and doesn't answer.

Soon enough there is a fight scene to occupy both their attention, followed by a chase through the streets. Sherlock is grinning at the screen. This movie isn't just fascinating; it's fun.

[identity profile] americas-son.livejournal.com 2010-08-14 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Also: Irene Adler is hot.

Cal feels this is a key detail and wonders briefly if the actress exists in this world. He'd definitely watch her in other stuff, too.
if_inconvenient: (== ultimately inconsequential)

It doesn't take Sherlock long to notice that reaction.

Personally, he prefers Watson.

(If he were to be really honest with himself, he'd admit he prefers Holmes most of all. Is that the man he's going to be when he is thirty-six years old? He certainly hopes so.)

When Irene drugs Holmes, Sherlock chuckles.

Cal likes that part too, mostly because by this point the movie has more than confirmed the impression that Sherlock gave in Milliways of being kind of a dick.

Okay, the tied naked to the bed thing, though - he could probably live with that scene if Sherlock weren't sitting right here next to him, but as it is, he's . . . just gonna look out the window for a minute.

Sherlock finds it hilarious.

[identity profile] americas-son.livejournal.com 2010-08-14 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course he does.

Cal's just glad the pillow was there.

Is it over yet? Can he look?

[personal profile] if_inconvenient 2010-08-14 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
The chambermaid's shriek, the rattle of a carriage, the words of course, she misinterpreted my intentions. All of that adds up to a yes.

Sherlock is still snickering.

[identity profile] americas-son.livejournal.com 2010-08-14 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Cal glances at the screen. It appears to be safe.

He ignores Sherlock and resumes watching the movie as if nothing had happened.
if_inconvenient: (<= I know it sounds absurd)

[personal profile] if_inconvenient 2010-08-14 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
In which case, Sherlock decides, he can withhold comment.

[identity profile] americas-son.livejournal.com 2010-08-14 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Good. Because there's nothing to comment on.

The increasingly supernatural bent of the movie seems entirely appropriate to Cal, all things considered, and he is genuinely surprised - and amused - when the movie's Sherlock thoroughly debunks it.

"You sure about that?" he mutters.

"Oh, absolutely."

[identity profile] americas-son.livejournal.com 2010-08-14 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"He did say there were no vampires," Cal remembers. "Just time travel."

That one time, anyway.

"Besides which, look at Blackwood's resurrection. Clearly staged. No one with real power would go to such trouble to fake it."

[identity profile] americas-son.livejournal.com 2010-08-14 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
"That too," says Cal, who of course had been thinking no such thing.
if_inconvenient: (!= that was Victorian)

[personal profile] if_inconvenient 2010-08-14 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"Indeed," says Sherlock, who is in no way fooled.

[identity profile] americas-son.livejournal.com 2010-08-14 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, yeah.

The end credits spool out on the screen. Cal looks over at Sherlock.

"So was it any good?"
if_inconvenient: (!= quintessentially Stark)

[personal profile] if_inconvenient 2010-08-14 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"Brilliant. I enjoyed all the quotes they dropped—you noticed one yourself."

[identity profile] americas-son.livejournal.com 2010-08-14 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Cal glances at the screen, saying,

"Yeah, I'd heard it before."

Then, "You can keep this if you want."
if_inconvenient: (!= brief but powerful)

[personal profile] if_inconvenient 2010-08-14 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
"Thank you," he says, pleased and a little surprised.

[identity profile] americas-son.livejournal.com 2010-08-14 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Cal smiles a bit, looking back at him.

"No problem."

Sherlock does have a little more of an investment in it, after all.

Plus it stopped him from talking about the quote some more.
if_inconvenient: (!= that was Victorian)

[personal profile] if_inconvenient 2010-08-14 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, after watching that, perhaps comparisons to Watson are not so ideal.

For that matter, perhaps Sherlock should not be looking so adorably happy.
